In major soccer knockout tournaments, the structure of single-elimination rounds—typically round of 16 through the final—makes it uncommon for any squad to reach three or more penalty shootouts. Historical patterns show that matches advance to penalties in roughly one-quarter of knockout fixtures, with strong attacking and defensive units often resolving contests in regulation or extra time. Recent form, squad depth, and stylistic matchups further tilt outcomes toward decisive results rather than repeated shootouts, as teams prioritize control and avoid high-variance scenarios. The 80% implied probability on "No" reflects trader consensus that these factors stack against any single side accumulating three or more shootouts across its path.

For the purpose of this market, the knockout phase consists of any game played after the group stage (Round of 32 onward, inclusive of the 3rd-place game). A penalty shootout is counted for both teams that participate in it. The three shootouts must be reached by the same team.
If the 2026 FIFA World Cup is cancelled, postponed after August 2, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or it cannot be determined whether any team participated in three or more shootouts within that timeframe, this market will resolve to “No”.
The resolution source for this market will be official information from FIFA; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
