Kimi Antonelli's strong early-season form has positioned him atop the drivers' standings with 100 points after four rounds, including a Miami Grand Prix victory that extended his lead over Mercedes teammate George Russell to 20 points. Russell's prior wins and qualifying pace keep him within striking distance, while upgrades from McLaren, Ferrari, and Red Bull have narrowed Mercedes' advantage in recent events. This intra-team rivalry, combined with Antonelli's adaptation to the 2026 regulations and Russell's focus on personal improvements in low-speed sectors and tire management, drives the competitive dynamics. The next race in Canada offers further opportunities for shifts in momentum amid a tightly bunched field.
