Both teams enter the 2026 season with uncertainty that favors a split in their late-season NFC South matchups. The Saints sit at 1-1 behind second-year quarterback Tyler Shough, who has shown early promise after a strong 2025 finish, though a severe high-ankle sprain to left tackle Kelvin Banks creates immediate offensive line concerns. The Buccaneers stand at 0-2 after narrow losses to the Bengals and Browns, with Baker Mayfield facing questions amid roster turnover and a challenging early schedule. Preseason projections viewed the division as wide open, and the combination of similar overall talent, home-field splits, and injury variables supports trader consensus around a 1-1 series outcome over either team sweeping the pair.
