Pierre-Hugues Herbert enters the Roland Garros qualifying draw as the home favorite against Kaichi Uchida on clay, where the 35-year-old Frenchman’s extensive experience and right-handed baseline game align well with the surface demands. Ranked around 223, Herbert has navigated multiple French Open qualifiers in recent years despite a mixed 2026 singles record that includes several early exits. Uchida, ranked near 244 and without a clay victory this season, arrives off a stretch of five consecutive losses and limited recent success on slower courts. With no prior head-to-head meetings, the match hinges on Herbert’s familiarity with Parisian conditions and potential home support versus Uchida’s need to find early rhythm in his first qualifying appearance at the event. Weather factors, including possible late showers, could also influence baseline rallies and serve effectiveness.
