Rinky Hijikata holds a clear edge entering this Hamburg European Open qualifying matchup on clay against Taro Daniel. Ranked No. 96 with a 19-15 record this season, the Australian brings stronger recent form after advancing through Rome qualifying before a final-round loss, while the 33-year-old Japanese veteran sits at No. 335 with sparse activity and inconsistent results. Their head-to-head is tied 1-1, though Hijikata won their most recent meeting in Montreal last year. Hijikata’s superior movement and baseline consistency on clay position him as the stronger favorite, though Daniel’s experience in extended rallies could create opportunities if the Australian’s form dips.
