The first-round qualifying clash at Roland Garros pits 19-year-old Japanese prospect Rei Sakamoto against 29-year-old Spaniard Pedro Martinez on the red clay of Court 12. Sakamoto enters with strong recent momentum, posting four wins in his last five matches while climbing the rankings to the low 150s. Martinez, ranked slightly higher near 140, has endured a difficult 2026 campaign with just two victories against seven defeats, including early exits in Rome qualifying and a Valencia challenger. The clay surface favors Martinez’s experience and baseline game, yet Sakamoto’s aggressive style and current form create a competitive dynamic in this best-of-three encounter, where recent results and adaptation to Parisian conditions will shape the outcome.
