SpaceX aims to attempt the first-ever tower catch of a Starship upper stage using the launch tower's robotic "chopsticks" arms on Flight 14, targeted for late August 2026. Elon Musk confirmed the plan during the company's August 4 earnings call, noting that heat shield performance on Flight 13 supports trying the maneuver after the vehicle completes its first orbital payload deployment. The Super Heavy booster has achieved multiple successful catches since 2024, but catching the returning Ship adds complexity around precise reentry guidance, thermal protection, and real-time arm alignment. Regulatory approval remains a key hurdle, while any launch delays or vehicle anomalies could push the attempt beyond the market window. Traders are weighing the aggressive timeline against SpaceX's rapid iteration pace on reusability hardware.

A successful catch is defined as the chopsticks capturing and supporting the Starship upper stage without it falling to the ground or causing catastrophic damage during the landing process.
If SpaceX attempts an ocean splashdown of the Starship upper stage instead of attempting to catch it using the Orbital Launch Tower's chopsticks, that attempt will not qualify. If no Starship launch occurs, or a successful catch does not take place, by the specified date, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "No."
The resolution source for this market will be official video provided by SpaceX (https://www.youtube.com/c/SpaceX), as well as secondary video feeds and/or written reports if necessary.
