Narendra Modi’s third term as prime minister, secured through the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance’s majority in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, continues with strong institutional backing into 2026. State assembly results through mid-2026 expanded NDA control to roughly 20–22 states, including key gains in West Bengal and Bihar, reinforcing the coalition’s legislative position ahead of the next national polls scheduled for 2029. Recent youth-led protests prompted one ministerial resignation but produced no broader challenge to government stability or calls for early elections. Polling from early 2026 reflected sustained support for continuity in leadership. Traders therefore assign a low implied probability to Modi leaving office before the close of 2026, consistent with the absence of scheduled electoral tests or confirmed coalition fractures in the immediate term.
