**Multiple returning Big 12 rushers and high-profile transfers create a crowded field for the 2026 rushing yards leader, with early-season results and roster depth keeping implied probabilities tightly bunched near 45-50%.** Preseason standouts like BYU’s LJ Martin (1,305 yards and conference Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2025), Texas Tech’s Cameron Dickey, Utah’s Wayshawn Parker, and Kansas State’s Joe Jackson anchor one group, while transfers such as Oklahoma State’s Caleb Hawkins, West Virginia’s Cam Cook, and TCU’s Jeremy Payne add fresh talent. Through the first two weeks, teams like Cincinnati, Houston, and Kansas State lead conference rushing offense, yet no single back has separated statistically. Official injury reports remain clean for most candidates, and shared backfields plus varying schedules further compress the field, reflecting trader consensus on a wide-open outcome dependent on workload distribution and conference play.
