Virginia’s 2026 congressional elections will use the existing 2021 map because the state Supreme Court invalidated the April 2026 constitutional amendment authorizing mid-decade redistricting. The May 8 ruling cited a violation of the intervening-election requirement in Article XII, leaving the prior districts in place despite Democratic legislative efforts and a narrow voter-approved referendum. Primaries occurred August 4 under the current lines, the May 12 map-change deadline passed, and the governor confirmed the 2021 boundaries will govern November voting. An appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court remains pending, yet the compressed timeline and completed primary stage reinforce trader consensus that no new map will take effect. Late reversal by the federal court could theoretically alter the outcome, though procedural and calendar constraints make such a shift improbable.

This market will resolve to “Yes” if the revised congressional district map drawn in HB 29 are used to define the congressional districts of Virginia in the 2026 U.S. House of Representatives midterm elections scheduled for November 3, 2026. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”.
The release of official election materials from the State of Virginia, or an overwhelming consensus of credible reporting, demonstrating that the revised congressional district map drawn in HB 29 definitively will or will not be used to define the congressional districts of Virginia in the 2026 U.S. House of Representatives midterm elections will be sufficient to resolve this market.
The primary resolution sources for this market are official information from the State of Virginia and a consensus of credible reporting.
