Increased ICE enforcement in the New York City area has produced thousands of immigration arrests since early 2025, with a city audit documenting 5,567 arrests from January 2025 through mid-March 2026, a 71% rise from the prior period and concentrated at immigration courts. A May 2026 federal court order restricted most arrests at three Manhattan facilities, while New York’s sanctuary policies and recent limits on 287(g) agreements with local law enforcement have constrained cooperation. Nationwide ICE arrest rates remained elevated into 2026, though New York-specific operations have shifted toward targeted actions against criminal noncitizens. With only weeks remaining until June 30, short-term arrest totals will depend on operational tempo, any adjustments following the courthouse ruling, and data reporting from official counters.
