David Goffin, the former world No. 7 and 2016 Roland Garros quarterfinalist, enters this ATP qualifying matchup with substantial clay-court pedigree and emotional momentum after a dominant 6-3, 6-1 opening-round victory over Chun-Hsin Tseng. The 35-year-old Belgian, seeking a 14th main-draw appearance in Paris during what appears to be his final season, faces 23-year-old Briton Toby Samuel, who advanced past seventh-seeded Martin Damm in a tight 7-6(11), 6-2 result. Samuel holds a career-high ranking of No. 159 and has shown recent challenger success, yet Goffin’s experience, consistency on the surface, and head-to-head edge position him as the clear favorite in this best-of-three encounter on the red clay. Recent form and home-crowd support for the veteran further shape current trader consensus.
