Recent July 2026 CPI data at 4.45%—up from 4.38% in June and driven by food inflation reaching 5.52% plus energy pressures from Middle East developments—has reinforced trader positioning toward the 4.50%+ outcome at 79.5% implied probability. The Reserve Bank of India has held the repo rate steady at 5.25% while revising FY27 inflation projections higher to around 5.1%, reflecting broad-based price pressures that remain inside the 2-6% tolerance band but above the 4% target. With August data due shortly and limited scope for near-term monetary easing amid global commodity risks, market-implied odds favor an annual average exceeding 4.50%.
