Tensions between India and Pakistan remain elevated following the May 2025 four-day conflict triggered by a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, in which India conducted Operation Sindoor strikes on alleged militant sites before a U.S.-brokered ceasefire. As of August 2026, India continues to hold the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance pending credible Pakistani action against cross-border terrorism, with ongoing arbitration disputes and Pakistani accusations of water weaponization adding friction. Recent developments include Pakistan's August 2026 defense pact with Turkey and Saudi Arabia, violence surrounding Pakistan-administered Kashmir elections, and think-tank assessments of moderate renewed conflict risk driven by unresolved militant activity. These factors shape trader views on the low but non-zero probability of Indian strikes by year-end, with markets reflecting caution absent fresh major incidents.

For the purposes of this market, a qualifying "strike" is defined as the use of aerial bombs, drones, or missiles (including cruise or ballistic missiles) launched by Indian military forces that impact Pakistani territory (e.g., if an Indian missile or drone hits a target within Pakistan’s borders, this market will resolve to "Yes").
Missiles or drones that are intercepted before reaching Pakistani territory, as well as surface-to-air missile strikes, will not be sufficient for a "Yes" resolution regardless of whether debris lands on Pakistani soil or causes damage.
Actions such as artillery fire, small arms fire, FPV or ATGM strikes, ground incursions, naval shelling, cyberattacks, or any operation conducted by Indian ground forces will not qualify as a strike under this market.
The resolution source will be a consensus of credible reporting.
