Romania's ongoing government formation crisis, triggered by the May 2026 no-confidence vote that ousted Ilie Bolojan’s pro-European coalition, continues to shape trader assessments of the next prime minister. President Nicușor Dan’s June nominations—Eugen Tomac, who withdrew, and Adrian Vestea, who failed to secure the required 233 parliamentary votes—highlighted deep fragmentation among the PSD, PNL, USR, and far-right AUR, with summer recess further delaying talks. A minority government or renewed centrist-liberal arrangement remains the most discussed path forward, as parties weigh EU recovery fund access and fiscal pressures ahead of parliament’s return. Traders price Alexandru Nazare highest, reflecting PNL positioning, while Sorin Grindeanu trails amid PSD’s size but limited coalition prospects. Any new presidential designation or breakthrough in cross-party negotiations could shift probabilities before year-end.
