The upcoming RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction on August 15 has ignited collector interest in this 1996 McLaren F1 GTR chassis 10R, nicknamed the “Pop Art F1” for its distinctive one-off livery. Long owned by Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason, the road-legal example stands out among the handful of 1996 GTRs for its development-car history and celebrity provenance, driving the house estimate above $35 million. Recent coverage highlights how such ultra-rare McLarens have set new benchmarks in the classic-car market, with traders watching for bidding momentum that could establish fresh records. The short timeline to the gavel leaves little room for additional catalysts beyond pre-auction hype and comparable sales.
