The limited free-agent market for 23-year-old wing Jonathan Kuminga has kept the race tight among suitors, with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers holding the clearest edges in trader consensus after the Atlanta Hawks declined his $24.3 million team option in late June. Modest offers—such as the Lakers’ reported two-year, $20 million proposal—reflect Kuminga’s reduced leverage following his midseason trade to Atlanta and slower-than-expected demand. Recent reports highlight stalled negotiations into early August, with the Cavaliers positioned as the frontrunner amid interest from Minnesota, New Orleans, and others. This competitive balance stems from Kuminga’s athletic profile and age offset by cap constraints and his preference for a short-term deal to rebuild value, leaving multiple teams with realistic paths via mid-level exceptions or sign-and-trades.
