Lukáš Hájek leads the market at 54% as the Starostové pro Liberecký kraj candidate for the October 9-10, 2026, Czech municipal elections, ahead of Tomáš Rec at 26.5% and lower-priced contenders. The SLK slate, running independently after ending its prior alliance with TOP 09 and KDU-ČSL, benefits from eight years of incumbency stability under outgoing mayor Jaroslav Zámečník and a focus on schools, transport, and local development. The race stays tight because the mayor is selected by the new city council rather than direct vote, requiring post-election coalition negotiations among multiple parties and new groupings such as Libe!. Recent first-round debates and candidate presentations have not produced decisive shifts. Clear separation could emerge from stronger polling on council seat shares, formal coalition pacts before the vote, or turnout patterns among key local voter blocs.
