**Andris Kulbergs leads trader consensus at 79% as the current Prime Minister heading into Latvia’s October 3, 2026 parliamentary election.** He assumed office on May 28 after President Edgars Rinkēvičs nominated him following Evika Siliņa’s resignation, when The Progressives withdrew from the prior coalition over defense failures linked to stray Ukrainian drones entering Latvian airspace amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Kulbergs assembled a majority coalition of United List, New Unity, National Alliance, and Union of Greens and Farmers, securing Saeima approval with 66 votes. The cabinet’s priorities center on national security (including 5% of GDP defense spending and border/air defense enhancements), budget stabilization, anti-corruption measures, and preparations for the snap vote. Incumbency, coalition stability, and the short timeline before the election underpin his position, while lower-priced alternatives such as Viktors Valainis (9.2%) reflect limited shifts in party dynamics or coalition negotiations. The market reflects trader assessments of post-election government formation under Latvia’s parliamentary system.
