The resolution source for this market is Yahoo Finance — specifically, the 1-minute interval ("1m") chart data for S&P 500 (SPX) available at https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/%5EGSPC/.The S&P 500, trading near 7,786 as of mid-August 2026 after a 14% year-to-date advance, faces primary pressure from Federal Reserve policy uncertainty. With the federal funds rate at 3.50-3.75% following a divided July FOMC decision, markets now price potential rate hikes by year-end amid July CPI at 3.4% year-over-year and persistent core inflation. Recent labor data and elevated producer prices have shifted trader focus toward tighter monetary conditions rather than cuts, influencing equity valuations through higher discount rates and Treasury yields. Key upcoming catalysts include the September FOMC meeting, August employment and CPI releases, plus Q3 earnings that will test AI-driven revenue momentum in tech-heavy components. These factors create a closely contested path for index levels by December, with inflation trajectory and policy signals likely to dictate near-term direction.
