Alexandra Eala enters this first-round WTA 500 clay-court matchup in Strasbourg as the clear favorite, buoyed by her career-high ranking near No. 42 and consistent recent results on the tour, including a strong 2025 season that featured a Miami semifinal and multiple top-10 wins. The 20-year-old Filipino has shown improving clay form this spring after reaching the third round in Rome, where she faced top competition before falling to Elena Rybakina. In contrast, Ukrainian Oleksandra Oliynykova, ranked around No. 68 and a qualifier here, brings solid recent wins in lower-tier events but limited experience against top players, with straight-set losses in Madrid and Rome. With no prior head-to-head meetings, Eala’s superior movement, baseline consistency, and higher ranking position her to control rallies on the slow Strasbourg clay, though Oliynykova’s determination could extend points if she finds early rhythm.
