Pierre-Hugues Herbert enters this French Open qualifying opener against Kaichi Uchida with clear edges in experience and recent clay-court exposure. The 35-year-old Frenchman, ranked 223, has competed in multiple Grand Slam qualifiers and shows solid form on European clay this spring, including wins at Aix-en-Provence. Home-soil support and familiarity with the slow, heavy conditions at Roland Garros should favor his right-handed baseline game. Uchida, ranked 244, arrives with limited recent success on the surface and a string of losses in Challenger events. The pair has no prior head-to-head history, leaving recent momentum and physical freshness as the main variables that could influence the outcome on the opening day of qualifying.
