The 2026 Georgia lieutenant governor race stays tightly matched because the state’s partisan balance and open seat create narrow paths to victory for both Josh McLaurin and Greg Dolezal, the state senators who won their respective party runoffs in June. A July statewide poll showed McLaurin ahead by four points among likely voters with sizable undecideds, aligning with current trader consensus that assigns each candidate roughly even odds. Limited general-election differentiation on issues such as taxes, education, and election procedures, combined with Georgia’s split between metro Atlanta suburbs and rural regions, has kept the contest competitive. Scheduled fall debates, early-voting turnout patterns, and any late shifts in national or state-level messaging could widen the margin before November 3.
