Paige Cognetti, the Democratic mayor of Scranton, holds a clear edge over Republican incumbent Rob Bresnahan in Pennsylvania’s 8th congressional district ahead of the November 3, 2026 general election. Traders appear to be pricing in sustained Democratic momentum from attacks on Bresnahan’s stock-trading activity while in office, an issue that has provided Democrats a consistent line of attack in this working-class, Northeast Pennsylvania seat that flipped Republican in 2024. Multiple nonpartisan raters classify the contest as a toss-up, reflecting the district’s narrow partisan lean and history of competitive House races. Both candidates cleared their May 19 primaries, setting up a head-to-head matchup that remains sensitive to fundraising, turnout among suburban and rural voters, and any further developments tied to congressional ethics or local economic concerns.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
