Republican Bo French secured the GOP nomination for Texas Railroad Commissioner by defeating incumbent Jim Wright in the May 2026 primary runoff, positioning him against Democratic state Rep. Jon Rosenthal, who ran unopposed in his primary. Texas Republican dominance in statewide races supports French’s lead in trader consensus, though a recent social media controversy over comments on University of Texas student demographics drew criticism from figures including Sen. John Cornyn and prompted French to emphasize immigration priorities. Rosenthal highlights his oilfield engineering background and focus on energy infrastructure, grid reliability, and environmental oversight to seek crossover support. The November 3, 2026 general election features a Libertarian candidate as well, with fundraising and polling trends reflecting French’s edge amid ongoing campaign dynamics.
