Germany enters this IIHF World Championship Group A clash with a clear edge rooted in greater roster depth and NHL-caliber talent, including key contributors who have driven stronger recent international results. Latvia, coming off a 2-4 opening loss to host Switzerland, must overcome limited top-end scoring and goaltending inconsistencies against a German side that has historically dominated head-to-head meetings. The February Olympic upset by Latvia adds intrigue, yet Germany’s superior special-teams execution and experience in high-stakes tournament play underpin trader consensus around the 68% implied probability for a German victory. Both teams face tight playoff positioning pressure, but recent form and structural advantages favor the Germans in what projects as a competitive but lopsided encounter.
