Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” has emerged as the early frontrunner for a Best Picture nomination at the 2027 Oscars following its July 2026 release, strong critical reception above 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, and robust box office performance. Its technical ambition and ensemble cast have fueled trader consensus around the Universal epic as the most likely to secure one of the ten slots when nominations are announced January 21. Fall festival premieres at Telluride and TIFF, along with upcoming releases such as “Dune: Part Three” and “Project Hail Mary,” plus guild precursors beginning later this year, will shape momentum. Historical patterns show late breakthroughs or critical shifts can still alter the field before voting closes in early 2027.
