Gold prices around $4,050 per ounce reflect a hawkish tilt in Federal Reserve expectations, with markets pricing limited rate cuts through 2026 amid resilient U.S. growth and persistent inflation pressures. Recent bank forecast reductions—such as Goldman Sachs trimming its 2026 target to $4,900 and HSBC to $4,560—stem from higher real yields and a firmer dollar, weighing on the safe-haven asset. Geopolitical tensions, including Middle East risks, and steady central bank demand provide underlying support, though ETF flows have slowed. Key near-term catalysts include upcoming U.S. employment and inflation data releases that could shift implied rate paths and Treasury yields, influencing XAU/USD volatility during the week of August 3.
