Cleveland Guardians enter the three-game set at Comerica Park holding first place in the AL Central at 24-21, four games ahead of the 19-24 Detroit Tigers. Cleveland’s balanced lineup and steady pitching have maintained their edge through mid-May, while Detroit’s recent skid—including a walk-off loss to the Mets—has left them 2.5 games back of the final wild-card spot. Key factors include Detroit’s rotation health, with Casey Mize’s thigh injury status and Framber Valdez’s recent starts drawing attention, alongside Cleveland’s road success and late-inning reliability. The series offers a direct test of whether the Tigers can close the gap before the schedule intensifies.
