The Washington Nationals enter the three-game series at Tropicana Field with a 38-35 record, sitting third in the NL East, while the Rays hold a stronger 41-28 mark in second place in the AL East. Multiple Nationals starters, including Jake Irvin (shoulder) and others like DJ Herz, Trevor Williams, and Josiah Gray (elbow issues), remain on the injured list, limiting rotation depth and forcing reliance on available arms such as Mikolas. The Rays benefit from home-field advantage in their dome venue, where they have posted a strong 24-9 mark. Recent Nationals offense has shown flashes, but the matchup pits a banged-up visiting pitching staff against a Rays club with better overall health and standings positioning heading into the June series.
