The Cubs hold a clear edge in the crosstown series thanks to their 28-16 record and superior overall roster depth, though the White Sox have climbed above .500 for the first time in years and sit in the AL Wild Card picture. Chicago’s offense has cooled sharply after losing four of its last five contests, managing just one run per game in that stretch, while the White Sox enter on a five-game home winning streak with improved pitching and timely hitting. Starting pitching matchups this weekend favor the Cubs on paper, but Guaranteed Rate Field’s short right-field porch and the South Siders’ recent home form create realistic upset potential in individual games. Historical trends show the Cubs winning 13 of the last 15 meetings, yet the 2026 White Sox roster is markedly stronger than the 100-loss clubs of recent years. Traders are weighing the Cubs’ steadier season-long performance against the White Sox’s current momentum and home-field edge in what remains a short, high-variance interleague set.
