Note: Current record 18 (Argentina vs. Netherlands, 2022). This market will resolve “Yes” if 19 or more yellow cards are shown across both teams in any single match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including extra time and penalty shootouts. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. Cards shown to coaches or technical staff count toward the total. If the 2026 FIFA World Cup is cancelled, postponed after August 2, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or it cannot be determined whether the record was broken within that timeframe, this market will resolve to “No”. The resolution source for this market will be official information from FIFA; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used. The record of 18 yellow cards in a single World Cup match, set during the 2022 Argentina-Netherlands quarterfinal, stands as a pronounced outlier driven by extreme physicality, repeated fouls, and specific referee decisions in a high-stakes knockout setting. No prior or subsequent tournament match has approached that total, reflecting how rarely match dynamics, officiating style, and player temperament align to produce such volume. For the 2026 edition, the expanded 48-team format and added knockout round increase overall fixtures but do not inherently elevate per-game disciplinary intensity. FIFA’s pre-tournament yellow-card amnesty adjustments target accumulation across matches rather than single-game card counts. Trader pricing at roughly 11.5% for the record being broken therefore reflects the sustained rarity of conditions required to surpass the established benchmark.
