The 2026 NBA Finals featured the New York Knicks defeating the San Antonio Spurs 4-1 in a series marked by several tight contests, including a 105-104 Knicks win in Game 2 and a 107-106 victory in Game 4 capped by OG Anunoby’s game-winning buzzer beater. Jalen Brunson’s series-long clutch scoring, highlighted by his 45-point Game 5 outburst during a comeback, underscored New York’s late-game execution. Historical Finals data shows game-winning buzzer beaters occur infrequently, often tied to defensive lapses or star isolations under fatigue. The Spurs’ young core led by Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox competed in multiple one-possession finishes, while schedule factors like short rest between games amplified end-of-quarter urgency. These elements shaped trader views on the likelihood of additional buzzer-beater instances across the best-of-seven format.
