President Donald Trump has signaled openness to restarting the short-lived Project Freedom military operation, originally launched in early May 2026 to escort commercial vessels through the Iran-blocked Strait of Hormuz and paused within days to facilitate ongoing peace negotiations mediated by Pakistan. Recent remarks from the White House lawn and a Fox News interview indicate Trump is evaluating an expanded version, potentially involving additional measures, as diplomatic progress stalls. Key factors shaping trader views include the status of U.S.-Iran talks, Gulf state cooperation on bases and airspace, and any fresh Iranian attacks on shipping. Upcoming developments such as further negotiation rounds or new military movements in the region could quickly shift the timeline for any restart.
