Lin Zhu faces Sinja Kraus in the first round of qualifying at the 2026 WTA Berlin Open on grass, their first career meeting. Kraus, ranked No. 92 and enjoying a career-high ranking after strong results on clay and indoor surfaces earlier in 2026, holds the edge in recent form with a 25-14 record. The 24-year-old Austrian brings solid movement and baseline consistency that can translate to the faster grass courts. Zhu, ranked No. 138 at age 32 with a 17-11 mark this season, carries more WTA grass experience but enters with mixed results, including a qualifying loss at 's-Hertogenbosch. Both players have limited grass-court samples overall, making adaptation to the surface, serve effectiveness, and early break-point conversion the decisive factors in this best-of-three encounter.
