Daniel Altmaier, the higher-ranked German at world number 64, faces Australian Rinky Hijikata at number 96 in the round of 32 on Hamburg’s red clay courts. Altmaier brings solid recent clay results, including a win over Zhizhen Zhang in Rome, while Hijikata enters after strong qualifying victories, most recently defeating Taro Daniel in straight sets. Their lone prior meeting came on hard courts last year, where Hijikata prevailed. Both players have shown inconsistent form in 2026, with Altmaier posting a 9-15 record and Hijikata at 21-14. Home-soil comfort for Altmaier and Hijikata’s aggressive baseline game on slower surfaces shape the matchup, though recent momentum and clay-specific adjustments remain key variables for traders.
