Banxico’s unanimous August 2026 decision to hold the policy rate at 6.50% for a second straight meeting has anchored trader expectations for no change at the September 24 gathering. July headline inflation eased to a six-year low of 3.12% while core inflation declined to 3.95%, keeping both measures within the bank’s 3% ±1% target range and supporting the view that gradual disinflation remains on track toward convergence in late 2027. Policymakers cited appropriate monetary restraint amid persistent upside risks from geopolitical tensions and global trade policies, alongside a modest Q2 economic rebound and lingering downside growth risks. With market-implied odds at 93% for an unchanged rate, any shift would likely require either a sharper inflation pickup or unexpectedly dovish central-bank guidance.
