A year after India's May 2025 Operation Sindoor missile and air strikes on alleged militant infrastructure in Pakistan—itself a response to the Pahalgam terror attack—the ceasefire has held without further major military exchanges. Indian officials, including the defence minister, have reiterated a policy of decisive retaliation against any new provocations or cross-border terrorism linked to groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. Diplomatic ties remain frozen, with limited backchannel activity and ongoing disputes over water-sharing and militancy. U.S. and other assessments flag elevated risks of renewed confrontation in 2026 if fresh attacks occur, yet no such incidents have materialized in recent months. Traders therefore assign modest probability to another Indian strike by December 31, 2026, reflecting the absence of immediate triggers alongside structural tensions.

For the purposes of this market, a qualifying "strike" is defined as the use of aerial bombs, drones, or missiles (including cruise or ballistic missiles) launched by Indian military forces that impact Pakistani territory (e.g., if an Indian missile or drone hits a target within Pakistan’s borders, this market will resolve to "Yes").
Missiles or drones that are intercepted before reaching Pakistani territory, as well as surface-to-air missile strikes, will not be sufficient for a "Yes" resolution regardless of whether debris lands on Pakistani soil or causes damage.
Actions such as artillery fire, small arms fire, FPV or ATGM strikes, ground incursions, naval shelling, cyberattacks, or any operation conducted by Indian ground forces will not qualify as a strike under this market.
The resolution source will be a consensus of credible reporting.
