Bolelli and Vavassori, the seventh seeds, carry strong momentum into this Rome semifinal after defeating top seeds Heliovaara and Patten 7-5, 7-6(4) in the quarterfinals on home clay. The Italians have compiled an impressive recent doubles record and benefit from familiarity with the red clay at Foro Italico. Harrison and Skupski, fourth seeds, advanced by beating Arevalo and Pavic but face a rematch against a pair that defeated them 7-5, 5-7, 10-6 in the Miami quarterfinals earlier this season. Surface preference and recent results on clay favor the home team, though the Briton-American duo’s consistent serving and net play keep the contest competitive in best-of-three format.
