Pedro Martinez enters the Lyon Challenger first-round matchup against Svyatoslav Gulin as the clear favorite on red clay, backed by his career-high ranking near 140 and extensive ATP experience, including recent Roland Garros qualifying appearances. The 29-year-old Spaniard holds a 2-7 record in 2026 but boasts strong clay-court credentials and a prior straight-sets win over Gulin in 2023. Gulin, a 23-year-old Russian ranked around 500 with a career high of 358, arrives after a recent challenger victory but faces a significant step up in competition. The surface favors Martinez’s baseline game and consistency, while Gulin’s limited top-level exposure and recent form suggest limited upset potential despite any momentum from qualifying. Trader consensus reflects these disparities in experience and ranking.
