The 2026-27 Ligue 1 campaign opens on August 23 with the seventh-placed side set to secure the Conference League play-off spot (or the sixth-placed team if the Coupe de France winner already occupies a higher European berth). Pre-season previews highlight a tight battle among mid-table clubs including Lens, Lille, Rennes, Nice, Lyon, and Strasbourg, where squad depth after the summer transfer window, early fixture congestion, and injury management will shape the race. PSG’s continued dominance at the top funnels attention to the lower European positions, while historical trends show that consistent home form and head-to-head results against direct rivals often decide the final Conference League qualifier. No matches have been played yet, so current positioning rests entirely on pre-season momentum and roster stability.
