Both teams enter the series finale at Kauffman Stadium well below .500, with the Astros at 32-39 and four and a half games back in the AL West while the Royals sit at 28-42 and ten games out in the AL Central. Houston has shown more recent offensive firepower, including a 10-8 victory in the opener and a 13-2 rout earlier this month, powered by sluggers such as Yordan Alvarez. Kansas City has dealt with notable absences, including outfielder Kyle Isbel on the injured list with a foot issue and starter Cole Ragans sidelined by elbow inflammation, contributing to a recent three-game skid. The Astros hold a 1-0 series edge and better road splits, though both clubs have struggled to sustain momentum in tight division races.
