The September 20, 2026 Berlin state election remains closely contested following Kai Wegner's July withdrawal as CDU lead candidate amid criticism over a prolonged power outage, with Finance Senator Stefan Evers now heading the ticket. This late switch has kept CDU support competitive but introduced uncertainty around continuity, while Elif Eralp for the Left Party and Werner Graf for the Greens draw notable backing in a fragmented field that requires post-election coalition negotiations to determine the Governing Mayor. Polling averages show the CDU-SPD governing parties trailing overall, with AfD's Kristin Brinker and SPD's Steffen Krach holding marginal implied probabilities. Upcoming debates, further polling shifts, and any coalition signals ahead of the vote could widen gaps among frontrunners in this multi-party contest.
