Republicans hold a 53-47 Senate majority ahead of the 2026 midterms, requiring Democrats to achieve a net gain of four seats for control. Nate Silver’s FLIPR model on the Silver Bulletin currently gives Democrats a 56.8 percent chance of winning the chamber as of late August, driven by a Democratic generic ballot lead near six points, polling averages in toss-up contests, and fundamentals including fundraising and historical midterm patterns. Competitive races in Texas, Ohio, Alaska, Maine, Iowa, and Michigan remain central, with recent polling shifts and primary results keeping several in play. Model updates incorporating new surveys, candidate performance, and national conditions through October will shape whether Republican control probabilities exceed 50 percent by key dates.

The resolution source will be Silver Bulletin's 2026 Flipr Forecast of Senate control, using the "Deluxe" version of the forecast, that can be found at https://www.natesilver.net/p/nate-silver-2026-midterm-election-polls-model.
Changes in the methodology by which Silver Bulletin calculates the forecast will have no bearing on the resolution of this market. If either Silver Bulletin or Flipr rebrand or otherwise change names or urls, this market will resolve based on the clearly-identified successor, should one exist. If Silver Bulletin's "Deluxe" Flipr model becomes permanently unavailable, the "Classic" model will be used.
