Stan Wawrinka enters the Geneva Open first-round clash against Raul Brancaccio as the higher-ranked Swiss veteran playing on home clay, yet his 2026 record sits at just 6-10 with five losses in his last six matches, including an early exit from Monte Carlo. The 41-year-old three-time Grand Slam champion earned a favorable draw after qualifying victory in Rome but faces a resurgent Brancaccio, who captured a recent clay Challenger title in Menorca and holds stronger seasonal form at 14-9. This marks their first meeting on outdoor red clay, where Brancaccio’s recent momentum and physical edge at age 29 contrast with Wawrinka’s experience and crowd support, leaving the outcome dependent on whether the veteran can summon enough one-handed backhand consistency to overcome declining results.
