Massive capital expenditures by leading artificial intelligence firms continue to drive trader sentiment around an AI bubble burst, with hyperscalers like Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, and Google committing hundreds of billions to data centers and large language model training through 2026. Recent earnings and analyst reports highlight a widening gap between these outlays and realized revenue or productivity gains, as enterprise adoption studies show mixed results and OpenAI projects ongoing losses despite partnerships like its Nvidia deal for gigawatt-scale infrastructure. Competitive dynamics among AI labs intensify pressure, with model releases and capability benchmarks failing to deliver proportional returns amid rising energy and compute costs. Upcoming catalysts include Federal Reserve rate decisions and second-quarter earnings that could clarify whether spending yields sustainable growth or triggers a correction.
