Mounting internal Labour Party pressure on Keir Starmer following poor local election results and declining public support has positioned Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham as the clear market leader for the next prime minister. Burnham's allies report plans to contest a parliamentary by-election and potentially assume the role before the autumn party conference, backed by favorable polling among Labour members. Wes Streeting, Angela Rayner, and Ed Miliband remain distant contenders amid ongoing leadership speculation, while the scenario of no change through 2026 attracts secondary trader interest. These recent party dynamics highlight the fluid path to any 2026 transition.
