Van Assche, a 21-year-old right-hander, boasts a strong 2026 record of 23-9 overall and 5-3 on clay, including a recent second-round exit in the Oeiras Challenger to Roman Safiullin after defeating Timofey Skatov. Dedura-Palomero, a left-handed rising talent with a solid 38-22 career clay mark at lower levels, arrives off a first-round loss to Flavio Cobolli in Munich but impressed with Challenger wins like over Daniel Elahi Galan. Van Assche's ATP experience and baseline consistency give him an edge on the outdoor clay, though Dedura's youth, reach, and surface affinity could fuel an upset in this best-of-three-sets qualifier. No injury concerns reported, with mild Madrid spring weather expected.
