Yordan Alvarez and Nick Kurtz share the MLB lead with nine intentional walks apiece through roughly 70 games, placing them narrowly ahead of Shohei Ohtani and James Wood at seven while Juan Soto sits at six. Power hitters in the middle of potent lineups continue to draw the most free passes when opposing managers elect to pitch around them in high-leverage spots, a pattern that favors Alvarez’s disciplined approach in Houston and Kurtz’s early production with the Athletics. With the top tier separated by just a handful of IBB and more than half the season remaining, small differences in plate appearances, lineup protection, and late-inning strategy keep the field tightly bunched in trader pricing.
