If the 2026 FIFA World Cup is cancelled, postponed after August 2, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or if it cannot be determined which player scored more goals within that timeframe, this market will resolve to 50-50. The primary resolution source will be the official results published by FIFA.Messi holds a clear edge in trader consensus at 72% implied probability due to his younger age, stronger recent form with Inter Miami, and proven World Cup pedigree. At 39, Messi enters the 2026 tournament with 13 career World Cup goals including knockout-stage contributions, while 41-year-old Ronaldo has eight goals all scored in group stages. Argentina's defending-champion squad provides superior supporting cast and attacking options compared to Portugal. Recent hamstring concerns for Messi were minor and resolved ahead of the expanded finals, whereas Ronaldo's advanced age raises durability questions over multiple matches. These factors align with the wisdom of crowds pricing Messi's higher expected goal output in the likely final head-to-head.
